Well Rooted 4:16.jpg
“Well Rooted” — C.Birde, 4/16

This old beech tree has snaked roots deep into the earth over such a long period of time, it seems to anchor its bit of forest in place. Around it, scores of robins dip their heads to dart and scurry through the leaf litter, while, in contrast, the tree itself moves too slowly for any eye to see — ever upward, ever inward.

  1. the photo is interesting. it suggests why your word “snaked” is perfect. and then there is a sense of mystery: “ever inward.”

  2. I think I still had “snakes” on my mind, considering the dream I’d had earlier in the week… This is quite a large, wonderful tree, but the photo offers little in the way of scale…putting my foot in the frame, though, would have disrupted the image 🙂
