“Fallen Leaves” — C.Birde, 10/16

Thoughts roost –

blackbirds

in leafless trees at

sunrise,

gloss-winged and

catching light,

throats lodged

tight with

songs unsung

that fall

unheard,

discarded

as dried leaves

rusting softly

back to

earth.

  1. Carrie, these are some beautiful lines: “gloss-winged and/ catching light,/ throats lodged/ tight with/ songs unsung.” The image of the songs lodged unsung in birds’ throats is interesting to consider.

    • Thank you — I imagine we all feel overwhelmed at times, that thoughts and concerns come to quickly to process; hopefully, we have the time to settle and sort them out, let go what doesn’t serve, and sing what does 🙂

  2. Carrie Birde, I like the fact that your writings are always based on the nature. It’s soothing and it awakes the imagination.

    • Thank you, Anya. I fear, sometimes, that we are collectively losing touch with Nature, with the very world that sustains and supports us, and this influences my writing deeply…sometimes I feel like shaking people to make them take notice, so that we don’t lose any more…but I’ve found that pointing out beauty does much more to awaken others than yelling at them 😉

      • Carrie Birde, people pay more attention to nature after reading about it because the words have worked magic awakening their imagination so they look for a real experience in the outside world 🙂

        • Anya, this is my very wish! I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hope that you are right 🙂
