Eyes — A Poem

“Dragonfly-Eyed Coneflower” — C.Birde, 7/24

Eyes

dragonfly wide

peering

asking:

why stand idly by

when with hearts

hands

minds unified

in kindness &

compassion

our world

we might entirely

redefine?

— C.Birde, 7/24

Small… — A Poem

“Mini Mina Marigold” — C.Birde, 5/24

Small

in a vast world,

& aware of her diminutive size

No bravado here

Alert & wary

Yet ready to trust

when approached with

patience & kindness.

We’ve all been her.

— C.Birde, 5/24

Companion — A Poem

“Sassafrases” — C.Birde, 5/24

In May’s unclouded light,

I walked my grief –

short leash heart-tethered

Cool blue breath against

my skin reverberating

with our paired gait’s

catch & swing

Strides synchronized

etched from fragrant air

Each, a pulse of beauty,

a tear shed for my own,

for the world’s suffering

Heart-leash short tethered

wending home again

On my doorstep –

patient, casting shadow

Nowhere to go, I let it in.

— C.Birde, 5/24

Walk Like Water — A Poem

A photo of a white egret walking along the ocean's edge.
“Water’s Edge” — C.Birde, 1/22

Walk

  like water

    river-spined

     ocean-hipped

      heart

    a steady beat

  within its grotto,

sheltered

  each step,

    each stride,

      a rain-softened

    footfall

  arms

shore-aligned

  welcoming

    the full tide

      of becoming…

— C.Birde, 1/23

Winter Blues — a Poem

An artfully altered photo of a Blue Jay feather.
“Blue” — C.Birde, 12/22

Oh, falling sky – pieces of blue

tipped black & white & falling

Crying bright reply to peanuts

clacking against dark shingles

& rattling aluminum gutters,

white painted.

Jay-filled sky in blue shadows

falling toward my outstretched

hand, emptied now, but hope-

          fueled.

— C.Birde, 12/22

Wood Thrush Wood — A Poem

A photo of an earthen track through a woodland in mid-spring ...
“Wood Thrush Wood” — C.Birde, 6/22

Hands clasped

& pressed

to breast-

bones,

we stood –

enraptured

as Wood Thrush

dropped

each liquid note

down through

the trees’ canopy –

like hope,

like light

then alit

upon the path

before us

& took

his unassuming

bow.

— C.Birde, 6/22

Simultanesousness — An Image

A photo of two young sassafras trees, side-by-side, as if in conversation.
“Sassafrasses” — C.Birde, 5/22

“All things exist…”

She held the wind

in her arms,

& song in her hair;

her stance gathered

forests, rivers,

mountains.

“…in a state of

simultaneous-

ness.”

— C.Birde, 5/22
