Mockingbird —

bears the full Moon

on beclouded wings

and weaves together

borrowed phrases into song

He regards me

with pearly eye,

daring me to criticize

But I —

who carry not a crescent

and long to sing —

can only look on,

admiring.

Mockingbird

  1. I can hear the birdsong…….
What great talent you have the drawing is just beautiful 💜

    • Thank you, Jackie…it was a pleasure to put those pencils to work and find the Mockingbird in the paper!

  2. Love both word and image here, especially the bird’s open claw and beak, her desire for life.

    • Thank you, too, Tess — sometimes, when I walk, I receive “suggestions” from the local inhabitants…I just must be sure I’m listening! 🙂
